The Worldwide Leader in Flicker and Arc Furnace Power Monitoring Technology
UHP Power Analyzer III
Electric arc furnaces are large scale consumers of electrical energy. A furnace with a nominal load of 40-50 MW draws as much power as the domestic load of a medium sized town. The cost of electrical energy constitutes a substantial portion of steel making cost. It is vital that this energy be utilized optimally.
The UHP POWER ANALYZER III is a precision monitoring system for optimizing electric arc furnaces. Over 25 electrical and operational parameters are displayed. Serial communications, data logging software and analysis macros provide additional diagnostic capabilities. This comprehensive display and analysis information allows furnace operators and engineers to:
- Set up and evaluate power programs to increase productivity
- Reduce electrical energy consumption
- Balance phases to minimize hot spots and refractory wear
- Reduce electrode consumption
- Optimize scrap selection
- Optimize foamy slag practice
The UHP POWER ANALYZER III provides operational information including furnace time utilization and long term average data for slag or scrap indicators. Continuous display information, data and analog outputs of the following vital parameters are available:
- Primary Voltage for each phase, Average and Low Phase Indicators
- Primary Power (MW and MVARS)
- Primary Power Factor
- Secondary Phase Current
- Secondary Phase Power
- Arc Voltage and Arc Length Indicator
- Arc Stability
- Slag Indicator
Display and Data Access
Display information is time averaged for stability and ease of interpretation. Both fast and time averaged data for all display information is available by RS-232 serial communication. Secondary information for arc currents, arc voltage and phase power is provided in bar-graph type displays for ease of comparison between phases even in darkened control rooms.
Software
Software for serial data logging to spreadsheet format is available. Macros provide further statistical analysis and graphics printing for furnace electrical parameters and also calculate arc resistance and reactance. Heat sheet graphs are created showing these time based parameters. The following sample heat sheet printout shows primary power factor, primary MW, MVARS and the slag indicator. A heat data summary and additional graphs are produced for electrical parameters including arc: currents, voltage, resistance and reactance; slag and scrap indicators; phase power, primary voltage and secondary voltages.
